How to calculate the finished shutter size
Step 1: Measure the width and height of the opening.
Measure from the outside edge to edge of your window opening. Make sure to account for any obstacles that may be in the way when your are installing your shutter. Also, make sure you have enough room above your window to mount the hinge.

Step 2: Determine your desired amount of overlap
The finished width simply means the total width your shutter will be. It is recommended to add at least 3 inches to your opening measurements. This would give you 1.5 inches of overlap on each side of your window.
For the height we recommend a minimum of 2 inches above the window to mount the hinge. If you are ordering an impact rated shutter then also add a minimum of 1 inch to the bottom (totalling 3 additional inches to the measured height)
You can also choose to style the shutter by only covering a portion of the window as pictured.
